The Deco District is an ideal location for anyone who appreciates history, architecture, and vibrant urban living. The area is renowned for its stunning Art Deco buildings, which date back to the 1920s and 1930s. Locals can take a walk and step back in time, with beautifully preserved structures like the Tulsa Club and the Mayo hotels showcasing intricate designs and craftsmanship.

The City of Tulsa, once referred to as the Oil Capital of the World, garnered the moniker in the early 20th Century when the petroleum industry ushered the State of Oklahoma onto the map. Although oil had previously been located just across the Arkansas River from Downtown Tulsa, it was the Glenn Pool discovery well, drilled in 1905, that cemented Tulsa’s right to the title. It was this field that lead to over 100 oil company startups in the following years and shaped the future of the city for decades to come. The boom of the petroleum industry generated incalculable prosperity for the Tulsa region, transforming Tulsa’s downtown skyline with some of the nation’s most ornate displays of Art Deco architecture; a result of the newfound oil tycoons’ lavish headquarter buildings and nearby mansions. Tulsa flourished during the Roaring 20’s.

The ten-story, 83,799 sq. ft. Sinclair Building is integral to Tulsa’s Oil Capital Historic District. It was built by Harry Sinclair with no expense spared, and housed Sinclair Oil for 30 years. It was one of the last significant properties from Tulsa’s Roaring 20s Oil heyday to be redeveloped to preserve its historical integrity while providing for modern needs.
